Humans are vicegerents of God Almighty as such the concept of man’s vicegerency provides the operational framework for the Islamic scheme of life. The status of vicegerency to man is a position of acting positively in guiding the entire creation. Likewise the same, leadership in Islam is a trust and a responsibility.
This position of acting positively is required by leaders in order to meet their obligations assigned by God Almighty. Such obligations include looking into the welfare of people by providing necessary charity to the marginalized.

We are not surprised therefore, to see the current Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) leader Sheikh Muhammad Idrissah seems to mean a person who has the desire to respond to problems people are facing. The MAM leader is flat out at this time of looming hunger in our country providing relief to the starved population.

This is witnessed by his duties of distributing maize, a staple food for Malawians to over 400 households at Masiku Village in Chiradzulu district.
Speaking after the donation, Sheikh Farooq Jumah who represented the National Chairman for Muslim Association of Malawi said MAM sourced the relief items with the support from the State of Kuwait, which has been assisting Malawi since January 2015.

“There was a lot of pressure from the people of Chiradzulu asking for the relief items and today God Almighty has answered their prayers. About 400 household who are coming from 25 Masjids in three zones of Mbulumbuzi, Kawawa and Ngwale in Chiradzulu district will benefit from this donation. It’s our hope that these people will be assisted for some days with these food items,” said Sheikh Jumah
Prior to this distribution the Chairman of MAM accompanied by Chairman for African Continent Committee of Revival Heritage society, Sheikh Jassim Muhammad Aleinati from Kuwait assured the people of this area that they will continue supporting Malawi.

In his response towards the relief items, MAM Chairman for Chiradzulu district Sheikh Uthman Watch thanked MAM for considering their request.
However, Watch asked for more support from MAM saying the relief they got is not enough comparing to the people affected by hunger in the district.
“As MAM Chairman for Chiradzulu district, I am very grateful that the National Chairman has considered our request, it is true that we have been knocking on the MAM’s door for the relief items considering the situation which we are going through here.
“They have really helped us but the relief items are not enough because there are a lot of Muslims who are facing this challenge. So, it’s my request that MAM should not stop there, it should also consider us next time to reach those people who have failed to benefit from today’s donations,” said Sheikh Watch.
