Malawi will witness the crossing of first ever land-based humanitarian aid relief convoy which journeys through Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt before entering Gaza in palestine.
The convoy, Africa 1 Aid Convoy is expected to be in Blantyre from June 7 to June 8 before heading to Lilongwe on June 9, 2011.
The convoy, is the inspiration of Muslim Judicial Council president and director of the Al-Quds Foundation (AQF) SA, Sheikh Igsaan Hendricks and is supported by a host of well-wishing civil society organizations and charities. Their main aim is to create awareness & sensitisation on the human rights violations taking place in the besieged Gaza.
However, as one way of taking part in the project, Malawian Muslims have organised an open forum which will take place at Malawi Sun Hotel on Wednesday June 8 from 7:30pm where all Muslim brothers around Blantyre are asked to come to witness such momentous occasion.
And, by realizing that this enormous task and responsibility cannot be undertaken without having expertise in every aspect, all Muslims in the Country are asked to share this information with their fellow Muslims by using any available means of communication.
According to Al Quds Foundation, the trip was born out of a visit Sheikh Hendricks made to the Gaza Strip in July 2010 and it was during this time that the idea of directing a land convoy from Africa to Gaza was conceived, after consultations with the leadership and other important role players in the territory.
