Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has officially opened Masjid Nazzat in the area of group village headman Petulo in Balaka.
The masjid has been constructed with funding from World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on behalf of the donors Swalih Shamarah said the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said people can pray everywhere but building a mosque is something that is good in spreading the message of the prophet.
He then asked Muslims in the area to be to be united so that Islam remains strong.
“I urge you to follow the teachings of the prophet and not to be divided because divisions will make you weak,” he said.
In his remarks National Chairman for MAM in Malawi Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad said under his leadership, the body has so far built 125 mosques with 15 more not yet completed. He however said although that is the case, MAM’s ambition is not only to build mosques but also schools and hospitals.
Also speaking Sheikh Ismael Ntiko commended Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad for a number of development projects he is doing in different areas.
He said MAM was dead but the current chair brought it to life and completely changed it.
“Since Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad took the leadership of MAM we have witnessed a number of development projects like mosques, schools and hospitals and Masjid Najjat is one such kind of the projects,” he said.
Senior Chief Nsamala who was also in attendance shared the sentiments of Sheikh Ismael Ntiko saying what the leadership of MAM has done has given Muslims in the area something to rely on.
He, therefore urged Muslims in the area to take ownership of the mosque by taking care of it so as to make sure that it should remain in good condition.
The Senior Chief also ask the leadership of MAM to consider building for so that children in the area should learn Islam.
District Chairman for the mosque for the mosque Dafter Yusuf Phiri also said that they bare happy considering that in the past they have no beautiful mosque like Masjid Najjat.
He asked the leadership of MAM to consider building houses for sheikhs because the sheikh for the mosque come from very far.
“I should take this opportunity to also ask you to consider drilling a borehole because the issue of water is a problem in this area,” he said.
The mosque was named masjid Nazzat by Swalih Shamrah.
