Police in Mangochi district have arrested M’madi Hara, 52, for being found in possession of a pistol without authentic documents.
Mangochi police station public relations officer, Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi says Police detectives in the lakeshore district on July 13, 2023 were tipped by members of the community that Hara had in possession of the pistol at his house at Makunganya village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponda.
“Following the tip, a team of detectives raided his house and found the said weapon without ammunition hidden in the side pockets of a black traveling bag ,” Daudi says.
The suspect has confessed that the pistol was brought from South Africa by his nephew who is not in the country at the moment, according to Daudi.
Meanwhile, Police are still investigating the matter in order to find the ammunition of the weapon.
Hara has been charged with found in possession of dangerous weapon and will appear before court after the completion of paperwork.
Hara hails from Makunganya Village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
