Police in Mangochi have advised people living along the water bodies like Lake Malawi and Malombe to desist from drawing water among others during odd and wee hours so that they should avoid being caught by crocodiles.
This comes after a mother, identified by the police as Hawa Twezi 25, was killed by the crocodiles on September 16, 2013 in a lakeshore district of Mangochi.
Mangochi Police spokesperson Rodrick Maida in an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website said the lady, who was with her 2-year old child met her fate at around 8pm when she went to draw water from Shire River at M’baluku village.
“The body of the deceased was found the following day with some parts missing. The child has also died but due to suffocation,” he said.
Maida said crocodiles normally attacks people in odd hours and early in the morning hence the need for people to avoid staying or doing anything along the rivers and lakes that have these deadly animals.
The deceased hailed from M’baluku village in the area of Senior Chief Mponda in Mangochi.
