Mai Aisha Sisters and Youth AIDS Programme (MASYAP) has distributed food hampers to its support groups in Blantyre, Chiradzulu and Bvumbwe.
Sister Marriam Khan Ali Coordinator for MASYAP said the aim was to help some of their members who cannot manage to find enough food to eat during this month of Ramadan.
“Our religion encourages us to help each other especially now as we are fasting, that is why we thought it wise to distribute the hampers, we do not only help those who are infected with the virus that causes AIDS but also others in need,” she said.
Khan added that is has been their tradition to help their members in whatever way they can during Ramadan adding that they usually give their members a variety of food to make them strong as they are fasting.
She also urged Muslim women to help each other.
One of the women who received the hampers thanked MASYAP for its gesture saying that this has come as a surprise to her because she was not expecting a gift of this nature.
She urged other organizations and well wishers to emulate what MASYAP has done to help others who also need help.
