Unofficial results of the Lilongwe South constituency by-elections are indicating that opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate, Peter Dimba has won by scooping 11,230 votes beating Frank Mazizi of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who got 1, 800 votes.
The by-elections conducted yesterday following the death of a UTM party candidate, Mrs. Agness Penemulungu, prior to the 21st May, 2019 tripartite elections.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) postponed the by-elections in the constituency in November, 2019 over threats that the electoral body’s staff and other parties involved in the elections were facing.
Total registered voters were 32,476, total number of people who voted were 15,247 while null and void votes were 295.
