On Wednesday Mia family donated items to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and other political parties to help them combat Covid-19.
The donated items include 50 sewing Machines,100 rolls of clothes, and other materials for sewing face masks.
The donation was presented by Elias Karim MP, who is nephew to the late Muhammad Sidik Mia.
The handover ceremony took place at Mia’s residence in the presence of late Muhammad Sidik Mia’s wife Honourable Abida Mia who is also Deputy Minister of Land and other family members.
Some of the people who have benefited from the donation include sitting Members of Parliament, Ward councillors, and also shadow MPs from various constituencies within the southern region.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi Muslim official website, MCP National Campaign Director Moses Kumkuyu said the donation is to save mankind.
“The donation comes as a response to the recent appeal which was made by president Dr Lazarus Chakwera who called upon Malawians to render assistance in the fight against covid 19”, said Kumkuyu.
“It is important to Malawi as a human race not to Mcp as a political party only but it is responding to a call to save mankind.”
Responding on how is it important to equip other political leaders with Covid 19 equipment, Kumkuyu said: ” The battle that we are facing does not look political face we have seen some people from other political parties dying of Covid 19 so to combat this Virus we just need to join hands and unite we will defeat this virus”.
According to the Mia family, the donation has been made in honour of the late Sidik Mia in line with Islamic belief of continuing to do good deeds that benefit mankind after someone close has passed on.
Recently the Mia family also feed the 400 workers at Queen’s central hospital.
