The Ministry of Local Government says it is excited that the Local Authorities that did not perform well in the 2020 Local Authority Performance Assessment (LAPA) have improved tremendously in this year’s assessment.
Minister of Local Government Prof. Blessings Chinsinga said this on Sunday during an interface meeting with Budget and Finance Adhoc Committee on Constituency Development Fund (CDF), Water Resources Fund (WRF) and Local Authorities in Salima.
The Minister highlighted that the implementation of Governance to Enable Service Delivery Project has made significant impact in the first year of the performance based grant implementation.
“My Ministry has embarked on recruitment of staff, capacity building for service delivery and hand holding exercises for enhanced local authorities’ capability to provide services towards the satisfaction of the citizens,” said Chinsinga.
Chinsinga said the address towards the encounters will solve decentralisation challenges which include inadequate resources, slow devolution of functions, low level of fiscal devolutions and resistance to devolve functions.
He added that the increase of CDF from MK40 Million to MK100 Million will respond to the development needs of the citizens.
