Muslim Alumni Society (MUAS) has awarded outstanding Muslim students in the 2011 Malawi School Certificate Education (MSCE) examinations at a function held at Malindi Secondary School in Zomba.
MUAS gave the award to Pious Imran who sat for his examinations at Saint Patrick’s Secondary School in Chiradzulu for scoring 8 points. In girls category, Linda Malimusi also who was learning at Saint Mary’s Secondary School received the award for scoring 10 points.
They were both given cash prize of 20,000 kwacha and certificates of recognition as top performers in the Muslim community.
Speaking after the function Malimusi attributed her success towards the spirit of working hard.
“I always try as much as possible to give everything in studies and listen attentively to my teacher,” she said.
On his part Imran who harbours ambition to become a medical doctor said he was very humbled to be awarded in such a way.
“I did not know that my working hard will yield this result, I am really appreciative to MUAS for the award,’’ he said.
Central East Africa Railway Limited (CEAR) Director of marketing and commercial services who was the Guest of Honour at the event Wilfred Ali commended MUAS for its role it is playing interms of encouraging Muslim students in their studies.
“It is really a positive thing to see how this organisation is working tirelessly in improving education. The incentives which these students are receiving have a great potential of making Muslm students to be working hard,” he said.
Ali then urged Muslim organisations and individuals to assist the organisations towards its cause of developing education in the Muslim community.
Leading by example, he made a donation of of 30,000 kwacha towards the association.
In his remarks, MUAS chairperson Clement Fulano said he was delighted with the impact the initiative has brought in the education sector.
“You can see how the changes has been in terms of the grades this year. There has been an improvement this year that is a clear testimony that we are in a right path, said Fulano.
MUAS is an organisation comprising of Muslim graduates whose objective is to assist students to attain higher education and offer financial assistance to the needy students among other things.
This is the second time for MUAS to arrange this function. Last year MUAS awarded a male and female students for scoring 10 and 12 points respectively.
