Anger continues looming in the Malawian Muslim community following torching of a Mosque in Mulanje by unknown thugs – with Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) strongly condemning the act.
MAM’s condemnation comes just a day after Islamic Information Bureau (IIB) also expressed its disappointment over the incident.
In interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website from Kuwait yesterday, MAM National Chairman Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad expressed his discontentment over the conduct and said the Muslims’ mother body will do everything possible to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
“We cannot tolerate such cruel act. These people just want to provoke Muslims in the country. Unfortunately, if we react to such barbaric incidents, they will start saying Muslims are violate forgetting that they are the ones who have provoked us.Therefore, as MAM, we strongly condemn the act and will not allow that to continue happening in the peaceful country like Malawi where everyone is free to practice any religion. We will try our best to make sure that the culprits are brought to book,” he said.
Last week, unknown thugs torched a Muslims’ praying house in Group Village Headwoman Ngolowera T/A Chikumbu in the district.
The incident happened at around 3 o’clock in the morning, an eyewitness Sheikh Ibrahim Swalleh said.
Police authorities in Mulanje confirmed the development to Malawi Muslims Official Website but said nobody has so far been arrested.
The file has been opened and the inquiries are in progress, said Saidi Bakali one of the authorities at Mulanje Police station.
Of course we must take action with that !
Shukran Imam for officially criticising this act. Eid Mubarak kwa wosope.
