One of the renowned contemporary religion daees in Malawi, Ishmail Awwal Tung’ande scooped the best trainee award during the customs principles and operations training that was organised by the Malawi Revenue Authourity (MRA) recently.
Tung’ande who outshone 174 other trainees to scoope the award, works as a Clearing Officer at Manica Malawi Limited. He is a Malawi Muslims Official Website contributor, a daee with Shariah Islamic Dawah group, a Muslim researcher and a regular panellist on Radio Islam’s Islamic Hard Talk programme hosted by the award winning Maulana Lemani.
According to the information posted on MRA’s website, the training was aimed at increasing “technical capacity of clearing agents…..for them to correctly classify, value and determine country of origin for various goods in order to arrive at the correct amount of duty.”
The site further quotes the Commissioner General Raphael Kamoto as saying that: “Please note that any clerk without this qualification will not be recognised to practice in the clearing and forwarding business come 1st July 2015.”
“It is our expectation that through these series of training the clearing and forwarding community will have the right technical skills that will enable them to execute their task effectively and efficiently,” said Kamoto.
