“It is important that whatever we learn from the teachings (of the Qur’an) we apply them to our lives. Muslim women who have participated in this years Qur’an competition should (strive to) practice what they learn from the Qur’an.

“They have an extremely important role in the society; they are our mothers. They raise our children so that they become good citizens in future,” said Muluzi.

Speaking after the function, Amina Abdullah who emerged as the winner in the competition, asked Muslim women in the country to acquire more knowledge in Islam so that they become good Muslims in the country.

“I am very happy to emerge as the winner , however I would like to ask my fellow Muslim women to acquire more Islamic knowledge. It is good to teach a woman in the society because when a woman is well educated it improves the religion and the society at large,” said Abdullah.

The Managing Director of Cofshak Cleaning Services Umar Banda who sponsored the event said he was impressed with the level of Qur’anic knowledge in the Muslim women. He said that this has motivated him to make to make sure that the competition becomes a national event next year.

“Muslim women (just like all other women) are nowadays busy with a lot of non Islamic activities, so I decided to bring in something which will keep them engaged (in more rewarding activities) like reciting the Holy Qur’an. If the women know well how to recite the Qur’an, it will enable them to lead their families successfully,” said Banda.
