Muslims in Malawi have been encouraged to take the Covid-19 vaccine when it comes available in the country.
The call has been made by the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) spokesperson Sheikh Dinala Chabulika in an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website.
Sheikh Chabulika told the website that there is no harm for Muslims to take the vaccine if it is medically certified to be safe.
He said that Islam respects the right to life therefore refusing to take the vaccine that is meant to save lives would be detested.
“In Islam, the sanctity of life is highly regarded, that’s why if there is a dire necessity, it (shariah) allows some practices… to be done in order to save a human life,” said Sheikh Chabulika.
Sheikh Chabulika said, as a religious body, they can’t offer any medical advice: “that’s why we are saying, if a team of qualified doctors approve the vaccine as necessary to save lives from Covid-19 transmissions, then we encourage all Muslims to receive the shots.”
