Muslim girls youth camp organised by Muslim Sisters Youth Organisation in conjunction with World Assembly of Muslim Youth has officially been opened in Mulanje.
The camp which is taking place at Mama Halima Girls Secondary School has drawn Youth Muslim women from various colleges, universities and secondary schools around Mulanje and Blantyre.
Making his opening remarks, District Education Manager for Shire Highlands Mr Christopher Ziwa asked the youth to take the issue of education seriously.
Mr Ziwa said the girl child education remains a challenge even on the part of the government. Therefore, he asked the girls not to take education for granted rather work hard for them to become responsible citizens.
“I don’t need anyone to tell me that Islam is so caring. It offers a lot of bursaries to the needy Muslim students and more especially Muslim girls. So, it is important for you to utilise this opportunity and do whatever you can to become whatever you want,” he said.
The camp started yesterday Friday 11 and is expected to end tomorrow Sunday April 13th.
Among other dignitaries present at the function include Director of Wamy Salimu Banda, Advisor of Wamy on media and public relations Yusuf M’balaka who both have come away from South Africa.
The theme for this year’s camp is Creating a Sustainable Development through Higher Education for Young Muslim Women.
