Mzuzu university (Mzuni) staff refused to work on Friday demanding the university administration to discipline students for harassing some of the staff members during protests on monday.
Chairperson of Mzuni Academic Staff Union, Dr Angel Nyirenda said the lecturers and other staff feel insecured over students riots against Vice Chancellor’s decision not to allow students to access end of semester examination due to fees balance.
During the protests on Monday, the students closed M1 road and one of the staff was stoned. The staff was rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital.
One student at the institution told Malawi Muslim Website that the staff also want the institution to be closed down for students to know that they were wrong.
