Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) on Tuesday officially opened a new masjid in Mwangata Village T/A Mulumbe in Zomba District.
About 13 million kwacha was spent on the project with funding from Kuwait’s Revival of Islamic Heritage Society — African Continent Committee and the opening ceremony was graced by officials from Kuwait.
Apart from the masjid, MAM has also constructed a 3 bedroom house for Imaam to ease challenges most sheikhs working in remote areas face.
In an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website, MAM Project Manager Sheikh Farook Jumah said the new masjid now brings to the total of 28 masajid constructed within two years under the leadership of Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad.
“That’s minus other nine which are yet to be completed and other five which are yet started. It is a wish of MAM to make sure that all Muslims have good masajid in the country,” he said.
Sheikh Jumah also said apart from masajid, the association has also started constructing clinics, orphanage centres and full Islamic centres across the country.
“So far, we have managed to construct three clinics within the same two-year period; in Nkhotakota, Mangochi and Lilongwe. We are also making sure that at each place where we have a masjid, we should provide the community with madrasah, clinic and nursery school,” said the project manager.
