The Sixth President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr Lazarus Chakwera says he will not allow civil servants to steal public funds at the expense of poor Malawians.
Chakwera made the remarks today during his swearing in ceremony together with Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima administered by Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda at Malawi Square in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.
The newly sworn in President says the “Tonse Alliance” government will not tolerate vices such as corruption and nepotism.
Chakwera promises to build new Malawi for all including those who did not vote for him on 23rd June, 2020.
He has asked Malawians to trust in Chilima-Chakwera presidency to develop the country for the benefit of the current generation and future generations.
Announcing the results last night, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Justice Dr Chifundo Kachale said Chakwera managed 58.5 % of the total votes.
Meanwhile, Former President Dr Bakili Muluzi has send congratulatory message to Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Dr Saulos Chilima as President and Vice President respectively for the Republic of Malawi.
In a statement issued, Muluzi has wished the two a successful term in office.
“Dr Bakili Muluzi wishes the two leaders all the best as they take the mantle of serving the people of Malawi,” reads a statement.
