The beautiful religion of Islam is complete. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) made it clear that any innovation in the religion is illegal.
The last Prophet of Allah said,”The most evil affairs are the innovations (bid’ah), and every innovation (bid’ah) is an error.” We have some practices that spark tensions among Muslims.
Every year, some Muslims celebrate Eid Milaad Nabbi (Birth of the Prophet Muhammad) across the globe in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims across the globe differ on the genesis of the event hence branding it as an innovation or bidiah in Arabic language. In 2022, the event will be celebrated on Sunday, 9th October,2022.
Some Muslim scholars argue that the event was never celebrated during the life time of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his followers making it not attached to any page in Islamic books.
One of the renowned Muslim scholar, Dr Zakir Naik said Eid Milad Un Nabi is a new invention whose no reference is available in Quran or Hadith.
“Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has clearly prohibited to invent any new thing in Islam and called it bid’ah. Rasool Allah SAW said Every innovation is a misguidance and every misguidance goes to Hell fire,” Dr Naik said.
He added “The sad fact of today’s Muslim Ummah is that many of us has started doing many new works in name of Islam that are no where present in Quran or Hadith but the important things about which Quran and Hadith have guided us again and again are not followed by us.”
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 37:” Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Aayahs?”
There is nothing in the Quran to say that we should celebrate the Mawlid al-Nabi or birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Prophet himself did not do this or command anyone to do it, either during his lifetime or after his death.
Muslims who celebrate the day claim that there is no single verse in the Qur’an or a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbidding the celebration of Prophet’s birthday.
Eid Milad is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).The festival is observed by many Muslims from the Sufi or the Barelvi school of thought. It is also known as Un-Nabi by the name of E-Milad,Nabi Day,Mohammad’s birthday or the Prophet’s birthday.
