We are a blessed community. We belong to a beautiful religion, Islam. We have a duty to spread Islam. We have a responsibility to make Islam continue shining. Do you know how we can spread Islam? It is only through seeking both Islamic and secular education.
We need to seek knowledge no matter what. We need to be educated no matter the sacrifice we are asked to pay. An educated Muslim is not just civilized, but also a strong pillar to Islam. The beautiful Islam needs us to carry its flag in a civilized way, through education.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him.”
Let us strive to seek both Islamic and secular knowledge if we need to be informed Muslims. We need to focus on both. Narrated Ibn Mas`ud: “I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “There is no envy except in two: a person who God has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (ie religious knowledge) and he gives His decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others. ”
As good Muslims and citizens of Malawi, we need the combination of both secular and Islamic studies to develop the country. Have you realized an educated Muslim is well disciplined and delivers where ever he/she goes? You can make a snap survey on this. You will establish that most Muslims are top performers in their positions.
Dear brothers and sisters. Let us seek knowledge. The importance of education is repeatedly emphasized in the Qur’an with frequent injunctions, such as “God will exalt those of you who believe and those who have knowledge to high degrees” (58:11), “O my Lord! Increase me in knowledge” (20:114), and “As God has taught him, so let him write” (2:282).
Let us seek productive and beneficial education. Productive education comprises of skills and character .
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.”–Socrates.
