The Qadria Muslim Association of Malawi (QMAM) says it is a necessity for Muslims in the country to embrace local moonsighting.
QMAM Publicity Secretary Maulana (MI) Abubaker Panchi says every Muslim is encouraged to search for the moon locally to avoid confusions and disagreements.
“We are encouraging every Muslim across the country to practice local moonsighting to avoid the disturbances and confusions that arise at the start and end of fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan,” QMAM Publicity Secretary says.
According to Panchi, it is Ibadah to practice moon sighting hence the need to teach our children in our respective communities about moonsighting.
“Local moonsighting is encouraged by Sharia. In Malawi, let us be guided by our own sighting and it is important to support One moon One Eid to build the Malawi Ummah,” he says.
Panchi adds,” Let us unite and build local moonsighting capacity. Let us work together, Sheikhs, Madrassa pupils, Ulamas, and every Muslim in Malawi. ”
Meanwhile, the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) and QMAM have formed National Moonsighting Committee (NMC) that is responsible for announcing local moonsighting.
