Jesus, the son of Mary was a man of miracles. It is due to these miracles that Pentecostal Christians crowned him as their god and identified some verses in the Bible to back up their claims. Unfortunately, much of the history of Jesus that we know is of his three missionary years and nothing substantial on his childhood days.
The Infancy Gospel of Thomas, strongly believed by an early prominent Christians like Eusebius, Athanasius, Epiphanius, Chrysostom, etc., is one such books that were rejected by the Church and never found its way into the Bible as we know it today. It was rejected as apocrypha. It however contains life of Jesus’s childhood that portrays him as a naughty and malevolent child who used his miracles to bully his friends and the neighborhood.
In one book, Jesus is described as playing by a stream with his fellow children digging pools of water next to the bank. He molded statues of birds out of the muddy clay. Being a miracle-worker, he then turned the bird-statues into real, living birds, which then flew away. Observing this, a child comes by and proceeds to splash the water in the pools with a stick.
Jesus did not take it kindly and instantly cursed him to death by advancing his age in a fast-forward manner:
“O evil, ungodly, and foolish one, what hurt did the pools and thewaters do thee? Behold, now also thou shalt be withered like a tree,and shalt not bear leaves, neither root, nor fruit.” And straightway that lad withered up wholly. (Infancy Gospel of Thomas 3:2-3)
Just later in the same day, a boy accidentally bumps into him in the street and Jesus could not take it lightly as a mere accident:
Jesus was provoked and said unto him, “Thou shalt not finish thy course.” And immediately he fell down and died. (Infancy Gospel of Thomas 4:1)
Apparently, the children of Nazareth feared him so much that some of them became his sycophants, guarding him and forcing others to pay their respects to him.
This is contrary to the portrayal of Jesus in the New Testament during his last three years on earth.
Jesus could kill animals:
Then the Lord Jesus calling the serpent, it presently came forth and submitted to him; to whom he said, “Go and suck out all the poison which thou hast infused into that boy”; so the serpent crept to the boy, and took away all its poison again. Then the Lord Jesus cursed the serpent so that it immediately burst asunder, and died. (First Gospel of Infancy 18:13-16)
He could also curse people to blindness for merely reprimanding his child-killing behaviour as it happened the other day where the citizenry told Joseph to either discipline his son or leave town. When he Joseph went to talk to his son, Jesus had none of it:
Jesus said, “I know that these thy words are not thine: nevertheless for thy sake I will hold my peace: but they shall bear their punishment.” And straightway they that accused him were smitten with blindness. (Infancy Gospel of Thomas 5:1)
According to Wikipedia, from the age of five years old until the age of twelve, the young Jesus had killed at least three people, two children and one adult teacher. The children were not brought back to life and their parents remained blind. Only when Joseph’s brother speaks to Jesus with respect does Jesus resurrect the teacher.
To us Muslims, Allah clarified the true position being of Jesus who, as a prophet of Allah, we believe in:
“Then will Allah say: “O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favour to thee and to thy mother. Behold! I strengthened thee with the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: ‘This is nothing but evident magic.'” (Holy Quran 5:10)
