The group managed to contribute K550,000 and was used to buy building materials such as plywood, poles, and nails which the members used to erect makeshift walls to provide the victims with shelter.

Among the notable sports administrators available at the handover ceremony was former Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) General Secretary Carol Bapu who encouraged sports followers from different groups to come in and embrace what TV Islam Sports Gallery WhatsApp Group has done.

“TV Islam Sports Gallery is just one group but there are many groups out there that are involved in sports and we ask them to take part and reach out to the people they serve. We also did this as one way of responding to the call made by the government through sports council who asked sports lovers to take part in helping people who have been affected by the cyclone hence introducing this initiative,” Bapu said.

In his remarks, TV Islam Sports Gallery WhatsApp group administrator and founder , Yasin Limu thanked all the members of the group for making the dream a reality.

” When we started sports gallery program on television Islam and then formed a WhatsApp group, we had a dream that it should not just be a sports program and sports platform but also a life changing program and platform by reaching out to friends and families with different problems,”

“Today, that has been manifested as you can see now that what started as a small thing with just a dream, has now managed to reach out to people who were displaced and had no any hope of having a shelter,” he said.

Limu commemded all sports administrators, journalists, player managers, referees and everyone on the group for joining bands towards this humanitarian assistance.

One of the beneficiaries of the initiative is Jamani Chipole from Suya Village in Ntoso popularly known as Mzikiti.
