The spokesperson, Hamza Aziz told journalists in Blantyre on Friday that all is set for the function to take place in the commercial city of Blantyre.

“All necessary arrangements have been put in place to encounter any inconveniences and we are expecting over 50,000 participants this year in the limbe main parade which will kick off at 9am at Kanjedza mosque ,” he said.

In his remarks Sheikh Adam King’ombe reminded Muslims the main purpose of the event saying it is nothing other than celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). He said the celebration is done in the third month of Lunar Calendar basing on the sighting of the new moon.

“That’s why the dates keep on changing every year. Muslims follow the lunar calendar and not the Gregorian calendar. On this day, we also remember good things that our Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him) did towards mankind during his lifetime. His teachings are followed today’s by the more than 5 million Muslims nationwide as well as more than 2 billion Muslims worldwide. It also involves reminding each other how the Prophet was born, how he was raised and how he left this world,” he said.

Sheikh King’ombe further said the Ziyara Parade is also “one way of uniting Muslims together for one purpose under a single banner like the tradition has been for hundreds of years world wide.”

He added: “This is done in more than 90 countries around the world and more than 400 million Muslims take part in the celebrations. And unlike other previous years, this year we will be donating some assorted items at Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the event because helping needy is part of the celebrations and teachings of Prophet Muhammed ( Peace be upon him).”

The coordinator for this year Brother Jibran Aziz has also informed us that there has been invites that have been extended to the head of state and all MPs regardless of faith. He also stated that a formal request to the head of state has been made to include the birthday of prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) as a national public holiday.
