The country has no adequate cement Malawi Government has confirmed.
Ministry of Trade says the problem has come due to shortage of forex on the money market.
Addressing the media in Lilongwe, Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe says the situation will be sorted out soon and he has warned dealers who are taking advantage of the situation to hike price of cement.
He says no any trader should sell cement above the recommended price which is MK 7500.
The country has local companies namely Shayona, Cement Limited and Lafarge Cement Limited among others that produce cement.
Malawi also imports cement from neighboring countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
