A 2-year-old girl has died after drowning in uncompleted septic tank at Favoured Kids Nusery School in Nkhotakota district.
The deceased who until her death was a pupil at the school has been identified as Akonda Kamowa.
Nkhotakota police station deputy public relations officer Paul Malimwe said on Thursday, January 23, 2020, the deceased while at school went to the toilet and on her return accidentally fell into uncompleted septic tank full of water.
“Despite the rescuers effort to save her life, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at St Anne’s Mission Hospital,” Malimwe said
Postmortem results conducted at Nkhotakota district hospital revealed that death was due to suffocation secondary to drowning.
Meanwhile, police are appealing to the general public and all private and public schools to conceal all pits around their schools to avoid similar deaths.
Akonda Kamowa hailed from Njovu village in the area of Traditional Authority Changata in Thyolo but was residing at Malasa village in Nkhotakota.
