A student of Robert Brake Secondary School in Dowa District has died in a road accident after a motor vehicle he was travelling in ran over him.
The student, Gracious Sauzande, whose other particulars are not known met his fate on Thursday morning at Zikwangwani Area along Dowa-Kongwe earth Road.
According to Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Gladson Mbumpha, the accident involved a motor vehicle registration number NS 7012 Toyota Dyna 2 Tonne Pickup driven by Godwin Jali, 32, from Kaunde Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mulumbe in Zomba District, who is a driver at Robert Brake Secondary School.
“Traffic Police report indicates that the motor vehicle was being driven from Robert Brake Secondary School heading to Dowa District Hospital with some sick students totaling to 18 on board to receive medical treatment,”
“Upon reaching at Zikwangwani area, the deceased jumped out from the moving motor vehicle and eventually the rear offside tyre of the motor vehicle ran over him,” said Mbumpha.
The student was pronounced dead at Dowa District Hospital due to internal bleeding and no damage was caused to the motor vehicle.
It is also reported that the student (deceased) was not amongst the sick students but he stole the ride as part of the celebrations for the coming of the new motor vehicle at the school yesterday.
