The Republic of China yesterday has donated medical equipment to help the country fight against novel coronavirus that has killed over 100 Malawians.
The donation was received by the First Lady Monica Chakwera who was accompanied by Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda.
Chiponda said the donated items include thermoscanners and face masks
“Today, (yesterday) I joined The First Lady, Her Excellency madam Monica Chakwera when she received a donation of Anti Covid Medical Supplies from the First Lady of the People’s Republic of China,”
“The supplies which include 120,000 thermoscaners and 18,000 face masks were handed over by China’s Ambassador to Malawi His Excellency Liu HongYang,” she says.
In his remarks HongYang promised to bring into the country team of Chinese doctors next month to strength and help our Health systems in treating COVID-19 pandemic.
As of yesterday, the country had registered 29 new COVID-19 cases, 61 new recoveries, and no new deaths. Of the new cases, 21 are locally transmitted infections and eight are imported infections.
Of the locally transmitted infections, three are health care workers (one each from Karonga, Lilongwe and Nkhata Bay), 11 are from Blantyre, four from Lilongwe, two from Chitipa, and one from Mzimba North.
The imported cases were identified at Mwanza border, four are from Blantyre and one each from Lilongwe, Mwanza, Neno and Nkhata Bay.
