A-30-year-old woman is battling for her life at Nkhotakota District Hospital after being severely assaulted by her husband who later dumped her in the bush presuming she was dead.
The victim has since disclosed that the two are currently on separation over family matters.
Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relations Officer Williams Kaponda says the couple has six children together.
According to Kaponda, on Tuesday, November 10, in the afternoon, the victim was returning from Chibothera market and she then met Magaya who suddenly started beating her for no apparent reason.
“She sustained deeps cuts in the head. When Magaye thought that she was dead, he dragged her into the interior bush and covered her body with the grass,”
“In the evening round 18:00 hours, some children who were hunting mice found her unconscious,” Kaponda says.
Kaponda says the victim was then rushed to Nkhotakota District Hospital to which she is admitted.
“Upon receipt of the information, police instituted an investigation which led to the arrested of the husband who had been seeking refuge in Nkhanga village within the district,”
“He has since been charged with attempt murder contrary to section 223 of the Penal Code,” Kaponda says.
The victim comes from Chikamba village, Senior Chief Mwadzama, Nkhotakota.
And the suspect, Hussain Alifu Magaya, 30, whose is expected to appear before Nkhotakota magistrate court soon, hails from Mankhwazi village in the area of senior chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota District.
