As Muslims, it is our mandate to clap hands for Lilongwe Islamic Secondary School (LISS) for its outstanding performance in the national examinations every year. It is an extraordinary run that can never go unnoticed.
LISS is a role model. All the Islamic schools in Malawi should look up to LISS and learn how it manages to consistently keep raising the bar. It is necessary for the future of Muslims and Muslim education in the country.
For the past years,LISS has been occupying a spot in the best performing secondary schools;both in Malawi Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi Senior Certificate (MSCE) examinations results. For instance , in 2022, the chitipi based secondary school scooped position 4 in the best performing secondary schools in the just released MSCE examinations results. Muslims in the country have a reason to jubilate.
The legacy of the school is not attained on a silver platter. Students who go through the schools sponsored by Direct Aid testify that respect, desire to win, passion to shine and will to compete at a bigger stage help them to perform outstandingly.
In Malawi,Direct AID supports three schools;Lilongwe Islamic Secondary School, Dedza Girls Islamic School and Nkhotakota Islamic Primary School. If you can trace the performance graphs of the schools, you are obliged to establish that the students who walked through the corridors of these schools are complete.
It is a must for other Islamic schools in Malawi to follow suit. Islamic schools in the country must desire to compete and improve. These Islamic schools must not view passion to win and shine as wants but needs if they need to emulate the legacy of the Lilongwe Islamic Secondary School and all schools run by Direct AID.
I am optimistic that one day, Direct Aid will open the Islamic University of Malawi that will satisfy the academic needs of Malawians.
