Balaka police station has registered a decrease in crime during the just ended year of 2019 compared to the year 2018.
An annual report released by the station’s Research and Planning Officer, Sub Inspector Mercy Mkondiwa has shown that the station registered 872 penal cases in 2019 compared to 961 in 2018 representing a crime decrease of 9 percent.
Mkondiwa attributed this achievement to tireless, professional and dedication of officers both at the station and its only units, Phalula and Ulongwe.
She also acknowledges existence of good relationship between police and its communities in the district.
Balaka police deputy publicity Sergeant Precious Makuta said Crime prevention awareness messages, road shows, and security trainings conducted by the station to its community policing structures have also contributed to the crime reduction.
According to Makuta, It is the wish of the station to maintain the decrease for a crime free environment for the people in the jurisdiction.
