“I was at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre this morning to cheer those that were injured by flash floods and mudslides caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy,”

“It has been a troubling experience to listen to shocking ordeals of the young and old who have been left helpless by this natural calamity,” Chakwera wrote on his Facebook page.

Chakwera say he has assured the victims of government’s uninterrupted support to see them out of danger and back to their respective communities in good health.

The Malawi leader adds: ” Let me also commend all medical staff – both at QECH and all facilities – for tirelessly offering unparalleled hospital care to the injured, traumatized and in some cases the deceased through mortuary services.”

At least 190 people have died after Tropical Cyclone Freddy ripped through southern Malawi, local authorities said as survivors continue to look for loved ones in badly hit areas.
