A 9-year-old girl in Nkhotakota has died after being attacked by a crocodile along Lake Malawi.
Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relarions officer Paul Malimwe says the incident happened on October 25, 2022, at Kajochi Village in Nkhotakota District.
Malimwe has identified the girl as Bridget Chule from Kajochi Village Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalimanjira in Nkhotakota.
“It is reported that on the said date at around 16:00 hours, the deceased (Bridget Chule) and her friends went for swimming along the Lake”
“In course of swimming, the girl got missing. Her friends reported the matter to the elders who instituted the search and found the body with a deep cut on the stomach, without both legs and right hand,” he said.
Police visited the scene together with medical officers and postmortem was conducted whose results indicated that cause of death was due to haemorrhage secondary to the loss of blood.
Police in the district are appealing to all parents and guardians to not let children alone go for swimming to avoid similar deaths.
