Speaking at First Capital Bank offices in Limbe, the bank’s Head of Marketing Twikale Chirwa said the bank is delighted to help grow the sport and is committed to help the association realise it’s goals.

“We have been supporting hockey in Malawi for 10 years now and we hope to continue doing the same, and this is the reason why we have purchased 2 sets of jerseys for both the women’s and the men’s including training kit after hearing that the team had no jersey due to their inactivity in the past years.” said Twikale

Twikale further disclosed that the logistics purchase of the jerseys that have been shipped straight to Zimbabwe has cost the bank 2 Million Kwacha.

In his remarks Hockey Association of Malawi (HAM) President Peter Mughogho thanked FCB for the support the bank lenders to the association and sports in particular describing them as a true partner.

“The target is to popularize hockey in Malawi, we want this to be the third popular sport and even beyond that, but we can only achieve this goal only when we have sponsors like the FCB who always with us come rain or sunshine. We are glad to have them as our sponsors because they help us in different areas be it tournament sponsorship or national team, as such we say thank you First Capital Bank and we hope we are going to make you proud by bringing results.” Mughogho said

Mughogho also asked Malawians to consider assisting the team with financial assistance saying that they are leaving for the tournament in Zimbabwe with a deficit.

“We are leaving with a deficit as currently we have 21 Million Kwacha only against our budget of 25 Million kwacha, since we aim at making the sport big, we will start go and compete at the tournament.” Explained Mughogho

The 38 member squad will leave the country on Monday 29th August by bus and is expected to play their first match on Wednesday 31st against Zambia before facing Namibia.

The tournament will be used for qualifying for the African Hockey Tournament to take place in Ghana in October next year.
