Police in Mchinji have arrested four people for allegedly assaulting three medical officials from Mchinji District Hospital who were suspected of being blood suckers.
The suspects are Lemani Issa, 27, from Thyolonjo village Traditional Authority (T/A) Mduwa; Getrude Fayison,52, Matolino Mwale,59 and Leonard Potifala Kaunda,60, from Matutu Village, T/A Nyoka in the district.
Mchinii police public ralations officer Kondwani Kandiado told Malawi Muslim Website that the arrest follows intensive investigations by Mchinji Police detectives.
“An angry mob had smashed the hospital officials’ vehicle on Monday last week and went away with a laptop and phones they were using for data collection. The laptop has since been recovered,”
“Following the attack, one official was admitted to Mchinji District Hospital after sustaining serious injuries while the other two were treated as outpatients at the same facility,” Kandiado said.
Police netted the suspects and charged them with unlawful wounding and theft.
Meanwhile, the police condemn all forms of mob justice and anyone involved in the malpractice will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
