Speaking in exclusive interview with Muslim Media Agency, Katawala says he has started business to maximize his financial base and use knowledge attained at college.

“Besides my art, there is family that needs my financial support. Apart from that I did a Degree in Entrepreneurship at the Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA).These two scenarios have prompted me to venture into business,” Katawala says.

The artist says Hassan Baut (another nasheed artist based in Lilongwe) also motivated him.

“I saw him starting business with little he had but now he is one the biggest boys in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe city, ” he says.

According to Kawatala, with Allah’s help, he needs to make his business empire as big as his brand.

“By grace of Allah, my wish is to make Katawala phone accessories , a big name as it is in the nasheed industry,”

“I have ventured into phone accessories business where am selling LCDs, earphones, chargers, USBs, screen protector, flush disks, porches, batteries modulaters and many more,” he says.

The top artist has advised other Muslim artists to venture into business since Islamic art pays less.

“It is very important for artists to have a business even if it may be small in nature . We all know that Islamic art pays less, so for artists to survive, they need to have other sources of income to boost their financial stand,” he says.

Katawala says his business ’empire’ will use his brand to excel in the business world.
