The signing ceremony took place on Saturday at the headquarters of Huawei Company in Shenzhen, in presence of Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu and Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola.

The MoU signed by the two ministers and Gomez, Huawei Managing Director, states that the Chinese company will offer services in the field of ICT connection, E-government, smart education, ICT talent training, cybersecurity, as well as providing solutions to renewable energy, which are crucial areas for boosting Malawi’s economy.

During the signing ceremony, Huawei made a donation of a set of micro grid solar pilot site facilities and E-government smart office facilities to the government of Malawi.

Huawei President of Public Affairs and Communications, Jeff Wang, said the facilities represent the company’s willingness to deepen cooperation with the Malawian government, and good wishes to the people of Malawi.

“We shall work together as brothers and sisters to build the great country of Malawi to a digital and bright future,” said Jeff.

In his acceptance speech, President Chakwera thanked Huawei management for signing the MoU with Malawi to offer crucial ICT technology, which the Malawi leader said will fuel the digitalization momentum of the country, and pave the way for fulfilling the Malawi 2063 Agenda.

Let me urge Huawei to continue in this path and not to hesitate in engaging my government for more technological endeavors.” he added.
