Three family members have died while two others have sustained injures after being struck by lightening in Nkhotakota.
The incident occurred on the wee hours of November 18, 2022, at Tandwe Village in the district.
Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relations Officer Paul Malimwe has been identified as Suwedi Malingamoyo, 30, Mwajuma Saidi, 28, and Abdul Malingamoyo, 7, while the two who have been injured are Hassan Suwedi, 7 and Rahaman Suwedi, 4.
According to Malimwe, Saidi Mwamadi, 48, on the material time, five people who happen to be family members were sleeping in one house while it was showering.
“Unfortunately, lightening struck and the house caught fire due to the lightening, leaving three dead and injured the two,” Malimwe says.
The two who sustained burn wounds were rushed to Mpamantha Health Centre and have been treated as out- patients.
Postmortem conducted by medical personnel from Nkhotakota District Hospital certified that the deaths were due to cardiogenic electric shock.
The deceased hailed from Tandwe Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota.
