A 34 year-old woman identified as Doreen Banda has died after being struck by lightening in Nkhotakota district.
Nkhunga police station public relations officer Ignatius Esau Phiri said onWednesday, the woman accompanied by her husband went to work in one of their cassava fields.
“Heavy rains started pouring in and this forced the two to abandon their work and started off for their home,”
“On their way home, lightening struck both of them and the woman died on spot whilst the husband sustained burn wounds and was rushed to Liwaladzi health center for treatment,” Esau said.
Postmortem at the health facility established that the woman’s death was due to electrocution.
The husband is currently receiving treatment at Nkhotakota district hospital where he was referred to.
The deceased hailed from Ng’onomo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota district.
