Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) Secretary General Mr. McBain Kanongodza has applauded UNICEF funded Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Program that MRCS is implementing in four districts namely Chikwawa, Mangochi, Mulanje and Neno for the achievements made in the year 2019.
Kanongodza made the remarks today during the SUN program review and planning meeting at Hotel Victoria in Blantyre.
He attributed the successful implementation of the interventions to dedicated staff and stakeholders working in the SUN project.
“I am very happy to see the tremendous work done over the year. The project has achieved more than the set targets for the year. I am also pleased to report that MRCS is now able to meet UNICEF set standards and requirements as evidenced by the extension of the partnership for another year,” said Kanongodza.
The main objectives of the project are contributing to the improvement of the nutritional status of under five children in the four-targeted districts of Chikwawa, Mangochi, Mulanje and Neno and also to contribute towards reduction in stunting by an average annual reduction rate of 2% on children aged 0 to 23 months, adolescent girls and pregnant and lactating women in the 4 districts.
Malawi Red Cross Society with funding from UNICEF started implementing the project in August, 2017 to complement government.
