Mangochi second grade magistrate court has convicted and sentenced Mc Harry Kolowiko to 30 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing bicycle.
Mangochi police public relations officer Rodrick Maida says the court through state prosecutor John Makawa heard that the owner of the bicycle Mr Fortune Harry is a friend of the convict and they were sleeping in one house at Makawa village, Traditional Authority Mponda in mangochi.
“In the morning hours of February 5, 2019 victim discovered that his bicycle has been stolen from the house by unknown culprit. He reported the matter to makokola police same day and enquiries led to the arrest of the convict on October 7, 2019,”
“It was also discovered that the said stolen bicycle was sold to unknown mozambican at mayaka trading centre,” said Maida.
Appearing before court, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him.
In mitigation, the convict asked court for leniency citing he acted under the influence of poverty.
In submission state prayed for stiff penalty citing cases of such nature are rampant in the area.
In his judgement second grade magistrate Augustine Mezaya concurred with state hence he was slapped with 30 months imprisonment with hard labour to deter would be criminals.
Mc Harry (24) hails from village mayaka in traditional authority chikowi in zomba.
