An unidentified man in his 20s has been killed in Nkhotakota after being hit by a bus belonging to Ulemu Bus Service.
Nkhotakota Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Paul Malimwe says the accident happened at Chinkhwamba Trading Centre along Salima-Nkhota-kota M5 Road.
According to driver James Kapenachilumpha, who was driving a scania Torino Bus registration number BU 7454, the bus was coming from Blantyre heading Mzuzu with passengers on board.
Malimwe says upon arrival at Chinkhwamba, the driver hit a pedestrian who is believed to be crossing the road from left to right.
“Following the impact, the unknown pedestrian sustained head injuries and was taken to Nkhotakota District Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he says.
The motor vehicle had its front part and radiator damaged while the driver and all passengers escaped unhurt.
Currently, the remains of the unknown man are being kept at Nkhotakota District Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem.
