Police in Mponela, Dowa district are keeping in custody a man for allegedly defiling and then killing a 16-yr-old, standard 6 learner at Nkhamanga Full Primary school.
Foliya’s body was found in a Soya Bean Field on February 28, 2020.
Mponela police station spokesperson Kaitano Librino said on February 27, the deceased paid a visit to her grandparents at Mphangala Village in the same village.
“After the visit, reports indicate that Foliya left the village in company of two friends. It is believed that after the friends had returned along the way, the suspect (name withheld) took advantage of the girl,” said Librino.
According to Lubrino, It is believed that the suspect, dragged the victim into a Soya bean field where he defiled her before strangling her to death.
Her body was found the following morning by passers- by.
Police and medical personnel from Mponela Rural Hospital visited the scene and postmortem results indicated that the deceased was defiled before being strangled to death.
The suspect will be taken to court soon to answer murder charges.
The deceased hailed from Mantchichi Village, Senior Chief Dzoole in Dowa district.
