Police in Phalombe district are keeping in custody Simon Kamwendo, 28, and Manuel Macheso, for allegedly trafficking in person.
According to Sergeant Innocent Moses, Phalombe Police Public relations officer,the two were caught by border monitors under River of Life Organization while being trafficking two children on their way to Mozambique.
“Yes, it is true we have arrested two people for allegedly trafficking in person. The victims are aged between 15 to 17 years and all are from Zomba district,”
“When they were asked about where they were going, the victims said, they were going to Mozambique to work in the maize fields as promised by the traffickers”,said Moses.
According to Moses, the suspects will appear before the court of law soon to answer charges of Child trafficking, contrary to section 79 of the Child Care, Justice and Protection Act and Human Trafficking which contravene section 14 of Trafficking in Person Act.
Both Kamwendo and Macheso hail from Mmeta village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba district.
Meanwhile Police urges, the general public to continue working together and report any criminal incident to Police.
