Chilima made the remarks yesterday during Tonse Alliance mega rally at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre.

“If we win on 23 June, I will not only be vice president of Malawi but I will also be the Minister of Finance. Our aim is to improve the country’s economy and to continue the public service reforms,” said Chilima.

Malawi Vice President also said Tonse Alliance Government will make sure that the country is food sufficient by subsidising fertilizer .

He said Malawians will be buying fertilizer at MK4495 to enable them harvest bumper yields.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president who is also the presidential candidate for the alliance, Dr Lazarus Chakwera said he will use Chilima to develop the country unlike the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Government that had underutilized him.

Speaking at the same rally, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President Sidik Mia said he is optimistic that Dr Lazarus Chakwera is becoming the country’s 6th president.

Mia asked Chakwera to transform Blantyre into a productive city.

“My second message is going to you the incoming President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
The writing is on the wall, you are forming government in this election. I am therefore happy that you will soon be President, because I know that you have great plans to transform Blantyre and Malawi as a whole,” he said.

Mia asked Chakwera to construct a new referral hospital in the district.

“Talking of Blantyre, the population has boomed for the past decades. It is no longer as it was when late President, Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda, constructed Queens Hospital. Then, it was enough to cater for everyone in this great City,”

“It is no longer the case now. The People of Blantyre need a new big hospital, Mr President. I know that you will help them once you take over power. By the way, a site is already available,” Mia said.

Among other Tonse Alliance members who attended the rally include Former President Dr Joyce Banda, Former Vice President Khumbo Kachali, UTM party Vice President Dr Michael Usi , Citizens for Transformation (CFT), Commander in Chief Timothy Mtambo and Former Chief Justice Richard Banda.
