Idana: We want to make someone smile

Islamic Information Bureau Youth Desk in conjunction with Muslim Students Association of Malawi have organised Eid-ul-Fitr joint celebrations scheduled to take place on the Eid day in three cities of Blantyre, Zomba and Lilongwe.

In Blantyre, the celebrations will take place at the IIB’s new state-of-the-art Auditorium known as Iqra Propagation Centre while in Zomba the youth will gather at Zomba Development Centre.  In Lilongwe, the function will take place at City Centre masjid.

According to IIB’s Youth Desk officer, Jafar Idana whose office is facilitating the event in Blantyre says everything is set to make someone smile on Eid.

“We expect this to be a memorable day for the youth. We have lined up many activities such as Quiz, Quran recitations, lecturer program, acrobatics, nasheed competitions, drama and other fun games. All these are aimed at making someone smile, as this is our theme for the event.

“Food and drinks will also be available. So, we ask those who have the tickets to come to attend this event which is the first of its kind,” he said.

When asked why they decided to come up with such program especially on Eid, Idana said:

“You know, this day is the great day in our religion. It is a day we thank Allah that we have managed to finish fasting in the month of Ramadan which is one of the five pillar of Islam. So we need to celebrate, come up together and share smiles with our friends. Apart from that, we have also seen that not all people can afford to celebrate on their own like the way their friends do because they are poor so we wanted to accommodate them also.”

The function will start immediately after eid prayers and it’s expected to attract about 1000 youths in Blantyre only, according to Idana.
