Muslims Association of Malawi has lead by example in condemning the brutal murder of Issa Njauju who was found dead along the road connecting areas 18 and 49 in Lilongwe early in the month of July.

The organisations are therefore asking government to conduct a thorough investigation in the matter. Through their press statement Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has asked the police to open up an investigation that will bring the culprits to book.

“MAM calls upon the police to conduct a prompt, impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the murder of Issa Njauju and ensure that those responsible for his vicious killing must be known to the public and brought to justice” reads part of their press statement.

The Islamic Commission for Justice and Freedom also issued their own press release that strongly criticised the security system of the country.

“These killings signal the levels of insecurity in our country as evidenced by the recent killings of a South African national in Karonga, and another Malawian woman in Dowa within a shortest period. However the commission is demanding government through the Ministry of Home Affairs and internal security to explain the death of brother Njauju. We also ask government to quicken conclusions of all outstanding corruption cases as the delays will lead to more killings.

The Commission further states that government should do away with the tendency commencing investigations without telling the people its conclusions

“It has been the tradition of our government that when such tragedy happens we are told to wait for the outcome of their investigation which eventually ends in vain. It is sad note that these issues are emerging when we are in festive mood of celebrating 51 years of Independence”, reads the statement.

Commenting on the same the Executive Chairman of Muslim Forum for Democracy and Peace Jaffar Kawinga condemned the brutal murder of Njauju and called on authorities to address the matter quickly.

“It is sad development and unacceptable in our society to lose a person likes Brother Njauju. This is unwarranted development to humanity, which is a true breach of human rights. It is also worrisome to security of our country. We are hoping that government will conduct an investigation on his death and hope that it will yield required answers and reveal the culprits,” said Kawinga.

Njauju (49), who was working as the Director of Corporate Services at the Anti Corruption Bureau was murdered by unknown people who also burnt down his car into ashes. He hailed from Mangochi, the lakeshore district of Malawi.
