Qadria Muslims Association of Malawi Receives MK47m Grant From NAC


    The Qadria Muslims Association of Malawi (QMAM) on Thursday last week received a MK47,000,000.00 and a vehicle grant from the National Aids Commission (NAC).

    According to NAC Public Relations Office Francis Thawani, the Vehicle, The vehicle, Toyota D4D is worth K20, 000,000.

    The handover ceremony took place at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre as side event of the bi-annual review meeting of the national response to HIV and Aids.

    Chairperson of Parliamentary committee on HIV, Rabson Shawa, said it is satisfying to note that Malawi has made considerable gains in the national response to HIV and Aids.

    “This is so due tireless efforts from all players in the national response, characterized by good planning and ensuring implementation of evidence-based interventions,” said Shawa.

    In a separate interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website, the Executive Secretary of QMAM, Saiti Burhan Jambo confirmed having also received the MK47,000,000.00 cheque  from NAC towards HIV/Aids prevention advocacy interventions in Malawi.

    The donation comes amid concerns that Malawi registers at least 50,000 new infections per year translating into about 1,000 infections every week and about six infections every hour.

    Some of the organizations that received the same donation of vehicles include Macro, Light House Trust, Centre for Social Research of the University of Malawi, Pakachere Institute of Health and Development, Malawi Blood Transfusion, Ministry of Gender and the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
