Qadria Muslim Association of Malawi (Qmam) National Chairman Alhajj Alid Likonde died on Saturday morning 25, March 2017 at Kamuzu Cental hospital in Lilongwe, the organisation announced.

“The Board of Trustees, Executive Board, Secretariat and Muslim community is saddened by the demise of their beloved leader. Therefore, Qmam sends condolence to the bereaved family of Likonde. He was a man of integrity, symbol of unity – who did not condone corruption, preached co-existence, and love,” says the official statement released by the association signed by its Secretary General Osman Karim.

According to the Secretary General, the burial ceremony will take place at Likonde village Traditional Authority Chigalu, Mdeka area in Blantyre on Sunday 26 March 2017 at 10 o’clock in the morning.

 

Meanwhile, Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has said it is deeply saddened with the death of the Qmam leader.

In a statement released by the association signed by its Secretary General Alhaj Twaibu Lawe, “MAM Board of Trustees, the executive, and all staff, sends condolence to the family and the entire Qmam staff, for the loss of a person who was dedicated on uplifting Islam in the country.”

Alhajj Alid Likonde was a founding father of Qmam. He has been the national chairman since inception in 1997.

Before founding Qmam, he was once a Vice Chairman and later became an acting national chairman for Muslim Association of Malawi following the demise of Sheikh Hussein Mwarab.
