In this episode, I will quickly talk about sleeping time management for and after this month. Luckily enough, our brother in deen, Mohammed Faris, founder of ProductiveMuslim.com (aka Abu Productive) has already dealt with this issue smartly. My task will be providing you with an extract from his expounding and of course, some paraphrasing (if necessary).

Managing the sleep in RAMADHAN is not about the hours, it’s about the quality of your sleep. So how do you improve the quality of your sleep, how do you ensure that you have a good night sleep.

The today’s episode will cover about something called sleep cycles.

Sleep cycles are important to manage how many hours you should sleep, and when you should wake up. Every Human Being goes through five stages of the sleep cycle.

Stage 1: Is when you just fall asleep, Stage 2: When you are about to lose consciousness. Stage 3 and 4: you’re in deep sleep, And Stage 5: It’s called rapid eye movement or R.E.M (your eyes are seen moving very quickly)

These are the five stages of sleep, so your goal is to make sure that when you wake up, You wake up at the end or beginning of the sleep cycle and NOT in the middle

If you wake up at the beginning or the end, you wake up refreshed, you wake up alert, you wake up rested

If you wake up at the middle of your sleep cycle, you wake up extremely tired, you wake up extremely lethargic and you think (I can NOT do this anymore)

In summary, what you need to do is to manage your sleep cycles, sleep every night according to your sleep cycles.

The average adult human takes fourteen minutes to fall asleep, so plan accordingly!
Sleep cycles typically last 90 minutes.
Waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle leaves you feeling tired and groggy, but waking up in between cycles lets you wake up feeling refreshed and alert!

Until next episode; May Allah make you and all of us among those who benefit from this month of Ramadan. Amen.
